Welcome to The Kessler School (TKS), where we provide an educational experience that nurtures and inspires students from early childhood through Eighth grade. Our Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth grade programs are fully accredited by Cognia, and our Early Childhood Center (3 months to 3 years) is certified by the State of Texas. Located in the vibrant Sunset Hill neighborhood of Oak Cliff, just minutes from downtown Dallas, TKS challenges its students academically in small class sizes, fosters meaningful connections within the school, our local community, and beyond, and celebrates the dignity in everyone. Our Mission is to create a community of learners that values individuality, cultivates a passion for learning, instills respect for others, and promotes leadership and community service.

The Kessler School offers a unique and holistic student experience that goes beyond traditional education. We provide a seamless educational journey from early childhood through Eighth grade, fostering continuity and stability during the critical pre-/early teen years. Faculty Excellence

 

Our dedicated faculty and staff are the backbone of a TKS experience. With diverse backgrounds and a wealth of experience, they bring unique perspectives to our community, fostering a culture of respect, curiosity, and creativity. We employ certified specialists, including a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP, in training) for our Dyslexia Learning Program, ensuring that students with specific learning needs receive expert care. Our commitment to ongoing professional development ensures that our educators remain at the forefront of educational best practices, enhancing the quality of instruction. By adopting the Responsive Classroom approach, we create a supportive and effective learning environment that emphasizes the strong link between academic success and social-emotional learning.

Academics

 

At TKS, academic excellence is woven into every aspect of our curriculum. We offer small class sizes and personalized attention, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to thrive. Our Gifted and Talented program -- Odyssey with Learning (OWL) -- starts in second grade and caters to gifted learners with an enriched curriculum that includes project-based learning and integrated studies in social studies, language arts, science, and math. Because we recognize how important mental well-being is for child development, we also incorporate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into our curriculum to help students develop essential life skills such as empathy, resilience, and teamwork. Our innovative and specialized learning programs, including STEAM education, Reading & Writing Workshop Instruction, and daily Spanish instruction, ensure that our students are well-prepared for the future.

Our Historic Campus

Our historic buildings (originally built in 1912 and 1956) were redesigned to support our innovative educational programs and provide a stimulating environment for our students. The new facilities include a gathering space for all-school Assemblies, a beautiful library where students find joy in reading and take STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) classes, expansive outdoor areas for daily P.E., recess, and learning, and specialized classrooms for our fine arts and music programs. Our campus was designed to enhance the learning experience as well as embody our commitment to restoring historic structures and integrating modern educational amenities.
