Elementary School (K - 4th)
Language Arts
We use the Units of Study reading and writing workshop model approach to teaching language arts (reading, writing, phonics) as developed by Teachers College at Columbia University. Through Readers and Writers Workshop, our students become avid and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers. This curriculum allows us to provide classroom libraries to our students that fit each student’s individual reading level. Dedicated sustained time for students to independently read and write is a priority in the workshop model.
Spelling
Our students in Kindergarten build their phonics foundation through the Phonics Units of Study curriculum from Teachers College at Columbia University. In grades 1-4, students transition to the Scientific Spelling program through Neuhaus Education Center. The curriculum teaches students how to spell by learning reliable spelling patterns and rules rather than rote memorization.
Math
The Everyday Mathematics 4th Edition is the math curriculum followed in K-4. The curriculum focuses on using math in everyday applications. Through repeated exposure to math concepts, frequent practice of basic computation, and multiple problem-solving strategies, students become lifelong learners of math.
Social Studies
Studies Weekly is a comprehensive curriculum designed to engage and motivate every student. Through the stories of intriguing people, exciting places, and fascinating events that make social studies relevant to their lives, students gain a global perspective. They also learn the social studies themes and skills they need to become informed, participating citizens who consider diverse points of view, use critical thinking skills, and are active in their communities.
Science
TCI Science Alive is our science curriculum. It is designed so that teachers and students can spend more hands-on time “doing” science while meeting the standards set forth by TEKS. In addition, we are proud to have contracted with Techie Factory offering weekly interactive STEAM Lab instruction reinforcing the skills students learn in the classroom.
