Important Information

3/10/2017

School Day & Calendar
Please be informed that in 2017-18 we will be extending the school day to increase instructional time. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires that there are 75,600 minutes of instructional time in a school year for K-12th grade. In order for TKS to be in compliance with the TEA requirement, we will extend the day to 3:20 dismissal for K-6th grade, and 3:15 dismissal for PreK. The extra 20 minutes at 172 days of school, will put us at 75,680 instructional minutes total. After care and enrichment classes will begin at 3:30 starting in the fall of 2017.

To view the school calendar for 2017-18, please visit the website under the links section at the bottom of the home page.

Spring Open House
Picture
TKS will be hosting a Spring Open House on Friday, March 24th for prospective students at 9:30-11AM. Please inform any families you know who might want to learn more about our school. We will start with a short presentation in the library and will be giving tours in all grade levels. If you happen to be on campus during this time, then we may ask you to share a little bit about your experiences here at our amazing school!
March for Meals
TKS will celebrate a day of caring with the VNA Meals on Wheels on Tuesday, March 28th. The K-6th grade students will have the opportunity to go to the VNA Haggerty Kitchen (located at 1440 W. Mockingbird Lane) at 10AM to gather meals then deliver them to up to four community centers. Delivery should take about an hour and a half. It will be more feasible to separate our students in small groups to divide the delivery locations. We will be using the school and church van as transportation, but also need parent volunteers with large vehicles to help transport students and meals. If you are interested in helping, please contact Carol White.

Healthy snack bags will be decorated and filled by ALL of our students (preK-6th) before the day of delivery to add to the distribution with the meals.

Chic-fil-A Order
There is still time to order Chic-fil-A (running from March 21st to the last day of school). For your convenience, we now have an online ordering system. Please visit the site to order for your child. Deadline for Chic-fil-A orders is Sunday, March 19th.
No Pets at School
Picture
This is a friendly reminder that household pets are not allowed inside the building. To protect the safety of all our students, please be sure not to bring your pets inside the school with you when dropping off or picking up students.
Do a Hair Check
Spring Break is a common time for children to stay in places outside the home and be around other people, which makes them more susceptible to getting lice. It is extremely helpful when parents do an at home lice check before students return to school after a long holiday. Please be sure to do a quick hair check for lice on Sunday night or before school Monday morning. It is our policy that students found with lice or nits are sent home and not allowed to return to school until the hair is completely clear of both.
