Thanks to Mrs. Jaggi for reading Rosie Revere, Engineer to PreK during Week of the Young Child!
Message from our Librarian
To everyone who participated in the PAWS to Read Spring Book Fair, on behalf of myself and the entire TKS faculty, we extend our genuine thanks! A Texas-sized thanks to the Valencias, for their devotion as Book Fair Chairs this year! A gigantic thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped out at the book fairs! Also, to Mrs. Harber's 3rd grade class who helped me pack and unpack! My heartfelt expression of gratitude to each of our students who have such joy selecting top notch books!

Because of each of you, we exceeded ALL expectations this Spring and also during the Winter Book Fair! This outcome absolutely makes a significant financial impact on our ability to add exemplary materials into our classrooms to directly support Reading and Writing Workshops and Maker education materials for our learning community.

Books are always the best medicine-- and we have plenty of good medicine to enjoy and share in our community thanks to each and everyone of you.

Terra Nova Testing
The K-5th grade students will be taking the Terra Nova, end of the year achievement test Monday through Thursday. Please make sure students get a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast to help them be ready for the tests each day. Every class will start testing promptly first thing in the morning, so please be sure students arrive to school on time.

Volunteers Needed
Hurray! With the Teacher Appreciation Dinner just around the corner, you have an additional opportunity to earn some volunteer hours by helping with aftercare, giving our fabulous TKS faculty and staff the opportunity to enjoy each others company for an evening of thanks and celebration. Without your support, they will be unable to attend the dinner, so we need parent volunteers to step in for aftercare duty.

When? Thursday, May 10. The volunteer slots are in 90 minute increments (you can survive 90 minutes!!) and are by age level (PreK1, PreK2, K-1, and 2-6). Or, if you're feeling a little wary, sign up for front desk duty!

Please feel free to reach out to Leslee Mallinson or Megan Griffin with any questions!

TKS Cares 4th Grade Project
The 4th graders will be remodeling a relaxation/nursing room for the Dallas Police Station on April 29th. The station will provide all the materials needed to paint, but Officer Jon Lumbley and his colleagues have provided a "wish list" of items for the new room. Our goal is not only paint the room, but to create a welcoming and warm space for the Dallas residents who need to use it when they visit the station and also for officers who need a place to recharge. If you would like to donate any of the items below, please contact Jesse Bartlett.
Wish list:
  • Recliner (already donated)
  • End table
  • Changing table (already donated)
  • Trash can
  • TV with DVR or two separate devices
  • Decoration for walls
  • Lamp
  • Floor fan

Cinco de Mayo Festivities
Sr. Mendez still needs items for our annual Cinco de Mayo celebration! He is requesting donations of medium sized piñatas, non-meltable candies and small toys and/or party favors por favor. Thank you to those who have already donated items!

All classes will be smashing piñatas on Friday (May 4th) and Monday (May 7th). The Mexican lunch celebration for K-5th grade students and teachers will be on Taco Tuesday, May 8th (El Fenix will be served for PreK ONLY that day). PreK will enjoy Mexican pan dulce for morning snack during Spanish time.
